If you think you need to travel to the Rann of Kutch to see flamingos, think again. Just a short drive from Fulgulab Lawns & Home Stays, the backwaters of the Pimpalgaon Joga Dam transform into a shimmering pink spectacle every year.
Built across the Pushpavati River, this 5-km-long dam is more than just an engineering marvel; it is a vital wetland in the Sahyadris that hosts thousands of migratory birds.
Why Pimpalgaon Joga Dam is a Must-Visit
Unlike the crowded waterfalls of Malshej Ghat, the dam offers a serene, "untouched" vibe. As the water level recedes after the monsoon, the mudflats become a feeding ground for the Greater Flamingo.
What you’ll see:
The "Agnipankh": Thousands of pink-hued flamingos wading in the shallow blue waters.
Diverse Birdlife: Spot the Alpine Swift, Whistling Thrush, Pied Crested Cuckoo, and Purple Moorhen.
Panoramic Sunsets: The dam is one of the best sunset points in Junnar, with the mountains of the Western Ghats reflecting in the crystal-clear reservoir.

When to Visit?
Timing is everything for birdwatchers.
Winter (Nov to Feb): This is the peak season for Flamingos. The cool weather makes it perfect for a morning picnic.
Monsoon (July to Sept): While the flamingos are fewer, the surrounding hills turn neon green, and the dam is filled to the brim.
How to Reach from Fulgulab Lawns & Homestays
Pimpalgaon Joga Dam is approximately 15–18 km from Junnar city. If you are staying at Fulgulab Lawns, it’s a scenic 30-minute drive through local villages and grape orchards.
Birdwatching & Wildlife
The dam is famous for its "Flamboyance" (the collective noun for flamingos).
Migration: These birds are believed to migrate from as far as Siberia or the Rann of Kutch to these backwaters.
Other Species: You aren't just limited to flamingos. You can frequently spot:
Pied Crested Cuckoos
Quails and Rails
Cormorants and Cranes
Green Pigeons
